Stains, discoloration, and normal wear can make teeth start to look dull and worn. At Benson Dental in Sioux Falls, SD, we offer teeth whitening treatments to bring back your brilliant white smile. A whiter smile can increase your confidence, improve your overall appearance, and even make you look younger.
All it takes to begin the whitening process is a quick appointment with Dr. Benson to take impressions of your teeth. Once that’s done, we will make custom trays for you to use at home at your convenience. Just two weeks of using your trays (for just 20–30 minutes each day) can lighten your teeth anywhere from five to seven shades!
Teeth Whitening Using At-Home Trays
The steps to having your teeth whitened are very simple, and thanks to the convenient at-home application, it’s easy to fit the treatments into your busy schedule.
- First, Dr. Benson will take impressions of your mouth. This appointment usually takes less than 20 minutes total. If you like, you can schedule to have your impressions done during the same appointment as your cleaning.
- Next, the impressions will be used to create custom trays for your whitening treatments. You will also be given a prescription-level whitening gel for use with your trays.
- Once home, you will put the gel in the trays and wear them for about 30 minutes a day. After two weeks of treatment, you will see a drastically brighter smile, but results can become noticeable after just a few days.
It’s important to follow the directions when using any whitening products, and you should never use whitening products longer than advised by your dentist or the product labels. If you have questions, our staff members in Sioux Falls, SD, will be happy to help you.
Who should consider whitening treatments?
Many people decide to get whitening treatments before a big event, such as a wedding or a vacation, but getting a whitening treatment anytime can improve your smile.
If you are planning on getting dental work or a dental implant anytime soon, you may want to get a whitening treatment done beforehand. Whitening treatments do not affect the color of dental work such as crowns, bridges, etc., so getting whitening treatments done after dental work can create inconsistencies.
Teeth whitening is a safe and effective treatment for many patients, but it isn’t for everyone. Whitening treatments can make the teeth more sensitive to hot and cold for a short length of time. Patients whose gums are receding or unhealthy may not be good candidates for a whitening treatment.
